Funerals at All Saints

Funerals at All Saints

In the sad event of a bereavement in the family, you may wish to arrange a funeral at All Saints. Alternatively, you may want the vicar to conduct a funeral at a crematorium.

The first thing to do is contact the vicar (click here for contact details). In many cases, your funeral director can make this contact for you. A date will need to be booked. And the vicar will arrange to visit you at home.

Funerals at All Saints may be followed either by burial or cremation. Burials take place in either of our two graveyards depending on whether there is a family grave or if a new grave is required. After a cremation, families may have an interment of ashes in the churchyard at All Saints. This can easily be arranged between the Vicar and the family.

SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q Can anyone be buried in All Saints graveyards, even if they do not live in the parish?
A Not when it is a full burial. The persons who have a right to be buried in All Saints churchyard are parishioners and members of their immediate families, together with members of the Electoral Roll of the Church. Someone living elsewhere, who had died within the parish, is also entitled to a burial.

When it is an interment of ashes, the burial can take place at the discretion of the vicar in consultation with the churchwardens, if it is considered appropriate in the circumstances.

Please bear in mind there is only a limited space available, and future residents of the parish should be enabled to have their burial at All Saints.

Q We have a family grave in the old Churchyard, can I be buried in it when the time comes?
A Yes, if there is room and the members of your family agree.

Q Can my ashes be placed in my husband’s/wife’s grave?
A Yes, in most cases this is possible.

Q Can Roman Catholics, non-conformists or people of non-Christian faiths or no faith at all be buried at All Saints?
A Yes, so long as they were parishioners. That is to say, so long as they lived within the Parish of Thornton Hough or were entered onto the Electoral Roll of the Church. All such burials need to be discussed with the Vicar before they can take place.

Q Can I purchase a grave for myself and spouse?
A No, all grave spaces at All Saints Church remain the property of the Church. However, you can state in your will that you wish to be buried at All Saints. This is particularly important for whose who have moved from the Parish into a residential or nursing home.
